Acoustic Guitar
An acoustic guitar is a type of guitar that uses simple acoustic methods to amplify the sounds produced when its strings are plucked or picked.
Much like any other types of guitar, an acoustic guitar produces sound through the vibration of the strings. The strings however, can create a very small amount of air which makes it difficult to increase the volume of sound. In an acoustic guitar, the process of amplification is done through the resonant cavity, sound board, and the sound box.
Acoustic guitars have hollow bodies. Whenever the strings are plucked, the vibration drives through the soundboard and up to the bridge. The large surface area of the soundboard displaces the large volume of air which in turn creates a louder sound than by using the strings alone.
Technically speaking, amplification does not occur in the process. Amplification is generally defined as using an external energy to increase the loudness. In acoustic guitars, the energy is provided by the vibration of the strings while the acoustic system simply maximizes the intensity of the sound.
There are different types of acoustic guitar. These guitars usually varies with the type of strings used. Among the most common string materials include nylon and lap steel.
