Acoustic Bass
An acoustic bass guitar is one of the most popular types of bass instrument. Also referred to as acoustic bass or ABG, this guitar is often used for accompaniment in fusion music such as jazz. It is also common in ballad and other acoustic performances. Some bands also use acoustic bass as a secondary guitar.
Acoustic basses were first developed by the Harmony Company during the 1950s. The main aim of this guitar is to provide a deep and rich sound that would compliment the sound of an acoustic guitar.
An acoustic bass features a wide hollow body which is somewhat similar to a steel string guitar. Acoustic basses usually come in fretted, fretless or semi-fretted kind.
This bass instrument is also consists of four different strings which are tuned as E-A-D-G. There are also acoustic bass models that feature five to six strings. However, the traditional four strings remain popular.
Unlike its electronic counterpart, acoustic basses can be quite difficult to hear as it does not have a sound box large enough to intensify the sound. This is why some players prefer using magnetic pickups which can be amplified using an amplifier instrument.
There are numerous acoustic bass labels to choose from. Among the most popular makers include Fender, Martin, Sunlite, Tacoma, Takamine, Maton, Cort, and Jersy among many others.
