Electric Guitars
Do you know what Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, and the Beatles have in common? Well, they are all famous for their irresistible electric guitar licks!
Electric guitar is a special type of guitar that utilizes pickups and amplifiers to produce well rounded and warm tones. A typical electric guitar usually features a solid and semi-hollow body. This means that this instrument is dependent on the amplifier for the sound. Unless it is amplified, an electric guitar would only produce a thin, fuzzy, and twangy noise.
The pickups act as transducers that convert vibrations into electrical signals. The current is then transmitted onto the amplifier which then shapes, modifies, and amplifies the sound.
There are different types of electric guitars. Each type varies when it comes to its body type as well as the number of strings. A semi-acoustic guitar for example, has a hollow body with pickups mounted on it. Although its hollow body already intensifies the vibrating sound, the electronic pickups create the balance by giving the sound greater resonance.
Electric guitars are often associated with the rock and roll music genre. A reason behind this is because some of the best tunes created by music icons such as Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and Jimi Hendrix are created using this instrument.
